How To (Finally) Clear That Clutter

Ridding your home of junk can mean a heavier pocket and a happier heart.

Your daughter has graduated from college, but you still have her security blanket and favorite stuffed toy stored in your house.  Maybe, it is time to move on, just as she has, and clean up things that have outlasted.

So, put on those gloves, tune in to http://www.musiciansfriend.com/, and get ready to groove (with dirty hands…)

Keep and Clear

The Safest Way To Light Up Your Home This Christmas

Buy the right bulbs.

  • If lights are labeled for indoor use, don’t use them outside.  The wiring isn’t designed to hold up in snow or rain, so if the interior gets wet, you could be in for a nasty shock’'
  • Figure out how many strings of lights you will need to do the entire job, then check product packages to find out how many strings can be safely connected to each other.  If one brand doesn’t allow enough connections, look for another that does.

Pick a safe extension cord.

  • Be sure it’s labeled for outdoor use and if appropriate, for cold weather.  Otherwise, the cord may become brittle and crack, exposing the inside wires to rain and snow.
  • Look for a gauge size (also called an AWG number) of 12 or 14.  This number indicates the amount of electrical current the cord can support.  For outdoor holiday lights, cords with a number of above 14 may overload and become a fire hazard.completedfavicon

How To Have Blooms That Last

Test for freshness.

If you’re putting together your own party bouquet, try this trick.  In the flower shop, sniff the water that the flowers are sitting in.  It should not smell foul.  And rub the stems to make sure they aren’t slimy.

A Pet Can Lower Your Blood Pressure

Whether you favor purse-size pups or you are more of a cat woman, interacting with animals can decrease your blood pressure and cholesterol, and just being around dogs boosts levels of serotonin – the brain chemical responsible for lifting mood.

I should know.  Our westie makes me healthier and his infectious energy is so delightful! Even if he totaled my guitar’s prs archon, I still love this little guy!  I just feel so relaxed around him (and my doctor says my blood pressure is sooo normal!)

If you don’t have a pet, go to your local park and watch other people’s animals frolic. completedfavicon

Relax. Unplug.

Do you spend most of your time

on the phone?

answering e-mails?

We are all so connected nowadays that we barely notice the tension produced by incessant phone calls and e-mails.

When you have some time for yourself, really make it your own by unhooking all your connections to the outside world.  Now use that peace and quiet for some serious daydreaming.  Add to the mix a bit of soulful music.  Now that is a great way to reconnect with you.  And deep inside you, you are truly a muscian friend. completedfavicon

Give Your Kids A Reason to Rhyme

Poetry may give you flashbacks to high school English, but it makes language exciting for kids.  It is imaginative and kids love rhyming.  They gravitate toward it.  You can make a poet out of your child.  Truly.  Here’s how.

Pick poems kids can appreciate.

Your child will get the most out of a poem that’s right for her age.  Dr. Seuss and Shel Silverstein are great for young kids because of their wacky rhymes! They can also make songs out of their poems.  You can buy them a musical instrument of their choice at the lowest price and watch them transform their poem into a musical masterpiece.

Notice the sounds.

Kids love rhythm, so show your child if there is a lot of repetition of one letter, or if the poem rhymes.

Talk about the ideas.

Ask “What are you picturing in your mind?” or “Does anything not make sense?” to help your child explore the poem’s meaning.

Leave it open to interpretation.

A poem is not a test or puzzle.  It means whatever the listener thinks it means.  So ask what your child thinks and offer your own ideas.

Random Reasons Why I Am Grinning Ear To Ear!

It’s officially summer!

And that is not the only reason I am grinning ear to ear.

Here are the other reasons:

I will be looking for the perfect summer getaway.

Way back (way, waaay back!) when I was a little kid, I used to spend my summer in this lovely beach at my father’s hometown at Santiago, Ilocos Sur. We used to have the beach to ourselves, but , of course, tourism got in the way and now, it is being developed into a Santorini-inspired resort.

Santiago Cove

I can’t get enough of Halo-halo, gelato and Ice cream.

I tried hard to stick to my diet (o.k, I lost.) and my workout, but seeing my favorite cold desserts, all over the place, always makes me happy!

I will be looking forward to a formal get-together with old friends.

I have not seen my old high school friends in a long while, and we are planning to meet up.  Here is the deal though.  We are planning on a formal gathering, to make us feel glamorous and sosyal for just a night.  No worries though.  I have been looking around and found a wide selection of gowns made available online only at ZALORA!  I am so excited!

Beautiful Gowns

I will be shoeless!

I live in Baguio City, which can be cold most days of the year.  It would be liberating to get rid of my shoes and go shoeless! Nah!  Sandals and flip-flops will do!
